xpedx Tablet Directed, Barcode/Order Fulfillment System Completed!
Warehouse Mobile Solutions, a logistics solutions provider, has implemented its state-of-the-art tablet directed, barcode & order fulfillment system for xpedx at its new distribution center located in Salt Lake City, Utah. This unique system features a software solution to direct and manage 11 tablet computers (iPads) mounted in a quick connect enclosure on the warehouse floor for product slotting, replenishment, picking, and order verification. Through the use of custom written applications (apps) developed specifically for warehouse and logistics companies, users are directed from zone to zone in a highly organized manner to replenish pick slots and pick orders to carts by scanning barcodes with a compact socket mobile scanner.
The Warehouse Mobile Solutions order fulfillment system, WarehouseOS (WOS), is a first of its kind to be implemented as a fully integrated solution, capable of simply receiving orders as emails without a direct connection to a host system. Once received orders can then be released as batches or individually. For more complex solutions, the system is capable of being connected directly to a host system for real time order processing.
WarehouseOS, installed at xpedx, is capable of processing over 30,000 cases per day, without the use of paper or cumbersome hand help mobile terminals. Operators simply scan items and locations, as directed by the tablet computer, mounted to picking carts in a lockable steel enclosure. The tablet computers are controlled wirelessly by a system manager, “Tablet Director”, which releases orders, schedules operators activities, and tracks in-process orders throughout the entire order fulfillment process.
